THE PERSON IN THE OTHER SEAT
Meet Toby Rice.
A pilot, a teacher, and a lifelong student of getting better.
I’m based in the Nashville area, where I own Wingman Flight Academy LLC. I work with owner-pilots in their own airplanes. You can come to me, or I can travel to you, anywhere in the world for training in FAA-registered aircraft.
My Christian faith shapes how I work and how I care for people. When you trust me in your airplane, you deserve preparation, candor, and someone who takes your progress personally.
Why I fly. Why I teach.
Aviation gives me something I value deeply: the chance to become competent at a demanding craft, while always having room to grow. There is always another skill to refine, another problem to understand, another way to stretch myself.
I want you to leave our time together significantly more capable than when you arrived. That process makes me better, too. Some of my greatest learning comes from teaching others.
Faith, responsibility and the work.
“Keeping our fellow pilots, who are made in the image of God, alive.” That is how I described my purpose on my original site. Colossians 3:23–24 shapes the care I put into the work.
Aircraft and instruction background
Single-engine land and sea airplanes, multiengine land airplanes, sport gyroplanes and the Cessna Citation CE-500 series. My aircraft specializations include Citation 500-series airplanes, Piper PA-32 and Sling TSi.
We confirm current qualifications, currency and aircraft fit for your particular assignment.

A COMMITMENT TO THE CRAFT
What “Master CFI” means.
The Master Instructor designation is a peer-reviewed professional accreditation recognizing an instructor’s ongoing work as an educator, learner, creator, and contributor to aviation. It requires renewal every two years. It is a commitment to continued development, rather than an additional FAA pilot rating.

We prepare, practice and debrief honestly. I’ll explain what I see and why it matters. You get room to think, ask questions and work through a decision yourself.
I take your progress personally. I want you to leave able to use what we worked on when I’m no longer in the right seat.

Every flight is an opportunity.
Every lesson goes both ways.
We prepare, practice, debrief honestly, and apply what we learn. You build capability you can carry into your own flying. I keep learning how to become a better pilot and a better teacher.
YOUR NEXT STEP
Start with your airplane. And your goals.
