PROFICIENCY TRAINING

Keep your edge.

People need to be reminded more than they need to be taught.

Train regularly. Work on what matters. Stay sharp in the airplane you actually fly.

YOUR AIRPLANE. MEANINGFUL PRACTICE.

A tune-up. Before you need a rebuild.

Put one or two days on the calendar each quarter. We look at how you have been flying, find what needs attention, and work on it with intention. Planning. Avionics. Aircraft control. Decisions. Handling the unexpected.

The less frequently you fly, the more frequently you need to train. Repeating a familiar trip is useful, but it may not practice the things you need when that trip stops going according to plan.

I train, too.

I fly between 500 and 1,000 hours per year, and I still train at least once every six to twelve months. That may be jet recurrent training at FlightSafety or an instrument proficiency check.

If you fly between 250 and 500 hours a year, I may recommend training every three to six months. Your experience, airplane, mission, and the kind of flying you do determine what makes sense. These are my training recommendations, not FAA requirements or a substitute for them.

The more often you train, the less rebuilding we may need.

Once a year?

We may need three or four days to rebuild skills and do the work properly.

Once a quarter?

One or two focused days may keep us refining instead of starting over.

Once a month?

A half day or full day may be a meaningful tune-up when you are already sharp.

Examples, not guaranteed course lengths. Frequent training can still be intense. The goal is useful practice that fits your proficiency and your flying.

What we work on.

A session starts with your recent flying and what needs attention. We may focus on changed clearances, your approach setup, aircraft control, weather decisions or appropriately simulated abnormal situations. Brief it, practice it and debrief what changed.

One or two days is a requested session length. The scope, investment, travel and any endorsement requirements are confirmed with you before the dates are approved. If you need a deeper rebuild, a longer course may be a better starting point.

How it works.

  1. Sign in and choose one or two consecutive days in the next four months.
  2. I review the request, travel, airplane, and what you want to work on. Dates are confirmed after that review.
  3. After we train, I recommend when to come back. You can book immediately, or receive reminders as that date gets closer.

I no longer conduct 24-month flight reviews.

I only conduct FAA-Approved WINGS Phases.

If you are unfamiliar with the WINGS program, see FAASafety.gov for details. Also see https://www.ezwings.net.

How it works:

Structured practice, evaluation and debriefing.

$500 per flight activity (except IPC)

I incorporate the AQP flight review into each lesson. “Training on the things that try to kill you.”

AQP Flight Review

Replaces the “every-two-years” spike with year-round, bite-sized proficiency work, keeping skills fresh instead of letting them atrophy.

Uses a structured FAA syllabus that targets the top accident-causing tasks and adapts to your certificate level and aircraft, not a generic one-size-fits-all flight.

Focuses on modern risk management and decision-making through online knowledge modules before you ever crank the engine.

Most coursework is free, on-demand, and can be finished anywhere, saving both money and scheduling hassles.

Three achievement levels (Basic, Advanced, Master) keep you motivated and document your ongoing mastery.

Every 3 months, I take my clients through a WINGS activity. Example:

January: WINGS Activity + Emergencies

April: WINGS Activity + IPC

July: WINGS Activity + Emergencies

October: WINGS Activity + IPC

What if I need a complete flight review right now?
